Once again, I am here to bring you some YUMMY applique using my Crafter’s Edge Crossover II and dies. Earlier in the year, Crafter’s Edge sent me the Tea Time die set. I love teacups and teapots, (having gotten my degree in ceramics) but I didn’t know how I would want or like to use them. But then I caught a glimpse of my Ice Cream Cone Applique that I made late last year, and it hit me! Make a yummy, whipped topping for the top of the teacups for a whipped coffee or hot chocolate look.
Below are the detailed instructions on how I created this look:
General Supplies:
- Crafter’s Edge Crossover II
- Tea Time Die Set (Cup and heart)
- Cupcake Die Set (Middle and top icing)
- Thermoweb’s Heatnbond Lite adhesive (if sewing) or Heatnbond Ultra (non-sew)
- Fabric for background
- Sewing machine and basic sewing notions
I made my applique into a quilted pillow cover. The instructions below do not detail how I did this. If interested in making a pillow cover, you can find more instructions HERE and HERE. My pillow was an odd sized pillow I had lying around the house that I just wanted to cover. My pillow instructions linked above show you how to make an 18″ pillow cover.
Instructions:
Begin by applying your fusible adhesive according to the manufacture instructions. Next, cut out the necessary pieces to create the look you want. I made 3 whipped topping teacups. On my Crossover II machine I made the cups and top whipped cream of the middle cup the opposite direction by flipping over my fabric before I cut out the shapes to get the reverse image. My little straws were made by applying fusible and cutting small rectangles.
Once all the pieces are cut out, arrange them on your backing fabric. Press in place. If using Heatnbond Lite your will need to sew the pieces down in some way (either applique or densely quilted stitching) to make them more permanent. If using Heatnbond Ultra, no sewing is necessary.
Once sewn down, you are free to turn your Whipped Coffee/Hot Chocolate Cups into anything you wish. A nice, table runner? An extra-large mug rug? The choice is yours and practically endless!
