BOO Quilt

I know it is only the beginning of September……..

BUT it is the perfect time to get started on a Halloween project!

If you are like me you start to see amazing Holiday projects on Pinterest and Instagram just before the actual holiday. You would love to make those items but by the time you would finish the holiday would be long gone and the next one upon us.

So I am here to show you how to create a fun and simple project that you can finish before October is even here!

Subscribe to receive details about my Thanksgiving and Christmas projects early too! October I will bring you Thanksgiving and November will feature several ways to sew ornaments!

But if you are like me, Halloween décor starts coming out as soon as Labor Day passes……I have so many nice decorations that need more than 31 days on display!

This project uses my Crafter’s Edge Crossover II machine and dies. You can create this without the machine but the Crossover II made cutting the circles and letters a breeze!

Here are the dies I used for this project.

Supplies:

  • 9 coordinating fabrics one white for the ghosts (to become the circles) approx 7″ x wof
  • Black fabric remnant
  • 1 6″ x wof coordinating fabric
  • Backing fabric 30″ x 36″ (this gives wiggle room)
  • Batting approx. 30″ x 36″ (this gives wiggle room)
  • Binding approx. 7 1/2″ x wof (this gave me three strips which was enough. I like to use this calculation for good measure: add all sides + 12″)
  • double sided adhesive for applique (optional, but highly recommended!)
  • Crafter’s Edge Crossover II and dies (optional)

Follow the instructions using the slide show below.

Bind your quilt and your are FINISHED! I chose a fun decorative stitch. I thought this one looked like a witches shoelaces.

This project is quick since you are quilting your piece as you go!

Finished!
Here my quilt is with the duddy pumpkin plant I am composting. It was already mid August and not a single pumpkin was growing. It was getting so big and growing on my sidewalk. So sadly, I pulled it out. This plant was actually a volunteer that I kept. I threw our pumpkin in the garden and let it naturally decompose and the seeds all sprouted in the spring (100’s of them lol) Some how it is still blooming??

I used the same steps above to create this fun Halloween kitty pillow cover. I made the ears and tail 3D. For the pillow I used a smaller circle die.

For another Halloween inspired project check out my Halloween Star Quilt.

Happy Sewing!

  1. I’m glad I came to your blog after seeing your CE facebook post! Using the circle dies for the quilt and pillow is genius! I absolutely LOVE this–and plan to make it/them myself sometime this month. So cool! I bet our Halloween-crazy design team members (i.e., Carol S and Joan) love these projects too. Thanks for sharing your tutorial,
