Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop

Another fun and fast year has flown by. So, it is time for another Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop.

The Challenge: (recipes are optional) You can share a recipe or not. Share Christmas quilts or projects. Tell us about your Christmas traditions. Show off your Christmas decorations/tree. Spill your funny Christmas stories. If it’s about Christmas, we want to hear about it!

I love to bake so I cannot resist sharing a recipe. This recipe is one that we make every year at Christmas. I used to be the one who made them each year, but my younger sister has taken over since I make all the sugar cookies ahead of time so the kids can decorate them. These cookies are delicious, soft and wonderful!

Cream Cheese Candy Cane Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 3 oz softened cream cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 box white cake mix
  • Red Food coloring

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine butter cream cheese and egg in a bowl and blend well. Add the cake mix and mix well. Divide the dough in half and mix the red food coloring with one of the halves. At this point you may need to refrigerate. The dough can get sticky if it gets too warm. Next, take a teaspoon of each dough and roll out into a 4″ snake. Twist the two together. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet about 2″ apart and form the candy cane shape. Bake 7-9 minutes or till the edges are just starting to turn or even before then. Cool for a minute or 2 then remove from pan. Refrigerate finished cookies. (The photo of the cookies is not mine as I did not have any).

Christmas Project:

For today’s hop I am sharing a fast little project you can whip up in no time. It is a gingerbread mug rug. These little mug rugs were made for a quilting group I am part of. This will be my first year attending the Christmas party and participating in the table decoration competition. The celebration is this week on Thursday, so I do not have a photo of the set up yet.

I added a bit of shimmer using Thermweb’s Deco Foil. If you would like to make your own set of gingerbread mug rugs just follow this link to the full photo tutorial!

  1. Your mug rugs are really cute, Julia! Everyone should love them. The cookie recipe is a good one! Also much enjoyed by all, I bet. Thanks for sharing!

  2. If it’s got cream cheese in it, you know it has to be delicious! Have fun at your holiday party. Those little gingerbread mug rugs are bound to bring a lot of holiday smiles!

  3. I tried making those candy cane cookies years ago, but they didn’t look as good as yours. I need to try them again with your recipe. They look delicious! Such sweet gingerbread mug rugs and the Deco Foil is a nice touch. I’m sure your holiday table will look amazing! Have a Merry Christmas, Julia!

  4. I love to make these candy cane cookies; my recipe is a bit different. Carol (above) says her cookies aren’t as adorable as yours – mine either. I end up rolling the two ‘ropes’ together cuz mine always fell apart when I didn’t do that. Yours are perfect! The mug rugs are so cute and practical, too. Merry Christmas to you.

  5. So lovely mug rugs And I love ginger cookies. They are so popular in Sweden all year along.

  6. It always feels good when we share something from our lives that makes someone else smile a bit more often or brings pleasure. No doubt both your sugar cookies for decorating, and these sweet candy canes are sure to do that. Thanks for sharing with us today

  7. Your mug rugs are so cute and I think that candy cane cookie looks awesome. I am adding this to my list of recipes! Hopefully the grands aren’t too old to continue our Christmas tradition!! LOL Thanks for sharing.

  8. Well those cookies look like something me, the non baker, could do. I think they would at least be worth my trying for my next holiday event. Even if they aren’t picture perfect they would still be delicious.
Always love a mug rug. yours are perfect for your event. Good luck,

  9. Those candy cane cookies look too good to eat, but I will force myself! These are definitely going into my cookbook! Love the gingerbread man mug rug. This would make a perfect gift for a co-worker along with a few cookies.
