Sew it Show it: Shades of Blue

Hello and welcome to Inflorescence! The Challenge: This one is Shades of Blue. Easy, peasy.  Add shades of blue to your project. Show us your winter blues. It can be any stitched project, just make sure there is a shade of blue somewhere.

For this month’s challenge I used some beautiful charm squares I received from a recent quilt swap. I used several Thermoweb products to give the bag structure including, their wide width sew-in fleece, medium weight fusible interfacing and basting spray. To continue with the blue theme, I even quilted using blue thread.

I really like how the bag turned out! I actually originally made the handles too short, so I cut them in half and added the fabric centers that are lined with medium weight interfacing for more structure.

The bag pattern is just a simple lined box bottom bag. I added some decorative ties that ultimately have no purpose.

Do you like to watch Facebook Live Crafting Videos? Tonight (JAN 25) at 8 PM EST, I will be hosting a Facebook Live for Thermoweb! I will be demonstrating a project that uses all my HeatnBond Lite Scraps! Check out the Facebook page early so your request to join can be accepted before the live starts!

Thanks for joining me. Check out the other bloggers who are sharing today or check out the whole list HERE!

Here is a sneak peek at next month’s Little Blossoms project! Little Blossoms is a video/blog series that will teach very simple handicrafts that only include hand sewing. Last month we made a pocket tic tac toe board and for February we are making sock donuts! Each project is posted the first of the month on both my blog and YouTube Channel.

In addition, February also starts my Mystery Quilt Along! The quilt along will only run for 4 weeks in February. Come and join in! The pattern will only be available during the quilt along and then it will disappear and only be available in my shop. Even if your schedule is full stop by each week to save the pattern before it disappears!

Happy Sewing!

  1. Neat bag, Julia! I like the blue squares, the variety of blue in the handles, and the ties just add a little extra decoration. 🙂 It will be fun to carry!

  2. Embellishments have no purpose so that means your ties are just wonderful. Loved the blues you used. Sweet that you also used blue thread for quilting.

  3. That bag is great, and it doesn’t matter if the ties don’t serve a constructive purpose, they serve the purpose of a wonderful decorative accent. Thanks for sharing this great blue project.

  4. Your bag is so pretty. Beautiful in blues. It looks like your creative life is super busy and it’s so fun to see what you are up to. Good luck with your Facebook live and the mystery sew-along. It’s so important to support each other and I’m so glad we’ve been able to watch you grow. Keep up the great work!

  5. Love that bag and the ties do add a certain flair to it! I love that little hand series you are doing too, so many fun things. I may turn my nieces on to it….some of them are a bit crafty and I am not near them but they have young ones and might find it fun!
