Sew it Show it Challenge: Little Green Apples

The Challenge: Sew something with green or apple fabric, or both!!! What a great month to show off your green.

March is a great month for showing off green, but I decided to go the route of little apples. February and March are such a crazy time for me. I am not only my older daughters main Girl Scout Troop Leader, but I am also the Cookie Manager for her troop. If you haven’t been a cookie manager for a girl scout troop in the days of the internet, then let me tell you it is very time consuming. There are different selling options and phases…not like just the paper orders and booths of days gone by…. I have literally had over 4000 boxes of cookies come in and out my doors, gone to what they call cookie cupboards several times to get more and have attended 6 cookie booths with a couple more to go. Believe me, I do love it. I have control issues and I would not want to have any other parent take over at this point. (It’s my 4th year doing this, so I got it pretty well figured out).

So…needless to say I needed a project that was simple. So for you today, I have made some simple apple coasters. I have included a pdf template that I drew out with some simple instructions for your pleasure.

But since this blog hop is also about green, I have included a photo of some of my favorite green things, including the green packaged Girl Scout Cookies called Toast-Yays! They were new to me this year. My niece lives in a different state and her Girl Scout council has a different baker (yes there are actually 2 different bakers for cookies!) Well, I just had to try them, and they have since become my new favorite!

I would love to hear if you have a favorite Girl Scout cookie, either present or a past discontinued flavor. I have actually been a Girl Scout for over 17 years total including my time as a girl. My favorites from the past were the Iced Berry Pinatas and the Five World Cinnamons that were out in the late 90’s early 2000’s. Check out this link. I found this fun link that ranks every cookie ever!

  1. Those are really cute, especially the tape measure stems. You did really neat work on them, extra impressive with you doing it during GS cookie time – applause!
I had to scroll down a loooong way down to find our favorite GS cookies on that link you included. And they are numbers 1, 2, and 3 – lol!

  2. Your apple coasters are delicious. I think they would also make great name tags with very little adjustment. Thanks for the pattern. My fav GG cookies are the mint ones. in Canada with Girl guides, mint and reg van/choc cream cookies are the choices.

  3. Adorable apple coasters!! My favorite GS Cookies? Hands down, the Lemonades are THE BEST!! I always wish there were more per box since they go so fast in our house.

  4. Your apple coasters are sew cute! Thanks for sharing the pattern.
When my daughter was in girl scouts I too was the cookie manager – before the internet!
My favorite GS cookies are Samoas/Carmel Delights and Thin Mints, to this day we still purchase cases and freeze them!

  5. The apple coasters are so, so cute, Julia! They’d make really sweet gifts. My friend was part of the Girl Scouts and their board for years, which is how I learned about the two bakeries. The lemon and mint ones are my favorite cookies. Too favorite as my waist will tell you. LOL

  6. Your apple coasters are adorable! I love the measuring tape fabric stems. I just $60 worth of cookies from my Girl Scout granddaughter, like I need that many cookies in my pantry! My favorite cookie is the Samoa, but I think they cal them Caramel Delights now.

  7. Your apple coasters are adorable! I’ve never been a Girl Scout, but I have 9 years of experience with Cub Scouts, as a leader. Thanks for your dedication to encouraging girls to achieve their goals.

  8. Such sweet coasters. Thanks for sharing your pdf. Your girl scout leader activities do sound like fun. It’s been 30+ years since I was a leader. Cookie sales were easier then and we only had the vanilla and chocolate cream filled cookies. ow there are so many different ones in each country! 🙂

  9. Toast Yays weren’t on our door-to-door neighbor who comes every year to sell me cookies. Bah, humbug! I would have liked trying them. I used to order boxes and boxes of Thin Mints, but I’m not allowed chocolate any more so I by-passed those and tried the lemon ones for me. I did get Thin Mints for one son, though. =) I sold cookies when I was a Girl Scout, and that was in the late 50s, then a leader on the Navajo Res. in the late 70s, and now I just buy them. Fun to think of how many years I spent and even a year at camp as a girl and one as a leader, too! It’s where I was too busy to bite my nails any more. LOL

  10. Aww, such sweet coasters. I’m a mint girl and love them frozen. My hubby loved when they offered sugar-free a long time ago, but when they quit offering sugar-free we kinda quit buying so many. If a girl asks, I buy. I love the program and think they learn by selling themselves.
