No Ring November

This months hop is called “No Ring November Mug Rug Blog Hop,” and is hosted by Carla at Creatin In the Sticks.

The Challenge:
“Create something to protect those surfaces. A mug rug, coaster, small placemat, anything to prevent those pesky rings on a table. November is a busy month, so this should be a quick project. Take a sip of a drink and make something to set it on.”

Challenge Accepted!

At the end of August I gave myself another challenge –to find a home for my “orphan” quilt blocks. You can read about it here. I called it “A Place to Call Home Quilt Block Challenge.”

I have so many random and extra quilt blocks that have no quilt to call home. They were either tester blocks for my patterns, blocks from when I began quilting in 2020 or projects I started and never finished and have no intentions of finishing either.

I remembered this blog hop and knew that it was the perfect way to give several of my homeless blocks a place to call home.

I also participated in a mug rug swap back in September/October and I have included those as well.

Please enjoy my parade of mug rugs, coasters and small table toppers!

These blocks came from a quilt along I started but never finished. I finally gave my 16 blocks a place to call home as 4 coasters and a table topper.

  1. Very clever use of your orphan blocks, Julia! I will remember your idea (although I sent all I could find to the Navajo Quilt Project a few days ago–more will accumulate). I enjoyed seeing your other mug rugs too–all are cute!

  2. Great fun, I love gifting mug rugs because they are so quick to make up and just darn cute! And such a clever way to finish up some orphans!

  3. What a great use of left over blocks. Love all of your ideas for their current lives going forward.

  4. Doesn’t it feel great to have found a home for all those Orphans? The topper looks great and so do the coasters and your mug rugs are sweet too. I had over 100 orphans and have been turning the orphans into purse flaps for the Sew Powerful Purse Project, so my orphans have been finding homes, slowly but surely.

  5. I love your table topper and matching mug rugs. I don’t know if it is the colors or the different blocks, but so far this is my favorite today.

  6. Hi Julia! What wonderful mug rugs. I adore the idea of using orphan blocks for this project! I have a few of those. Ahem. Maybe slightly more than a few. Happy holidays to you and your family. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. This is a great way to use tester blocks or blocks that never make it to a finished quilt. I love it! Those tiny little squares in your blocks are incredible and look amazing as coaster. Thanks for sharing your beauties, Julia!

  8. I love your ideas. I go to many estate sales and auctions I buy boxed of old quilt blocks that were never going to go into a quilt. I usually make hot pads, but I definitely will be using some for mug rugs. Thank you.

  9. Awww, such fun projects. Such a great use of those blocks and such pretty colors. Love that pumpkin mug and the coffee shop cup is brilliant. Thanks for joining No Ring November.
