Mini Quilt Series: Alaskan Pinwheels

Please enjoy the first mini quilt of my new Mini Quilt Series!

This mini quit was made for a secret color mini quilt swap back in March/April. I call this quilt “Alaskan Pinwheels” because the reviver of this mini quilt lives all the way in Alaska!

The task of this swap was to make a mini quilt using your partners favorite colors. My partner loved soft pinks and low volume prints.

Every update on this mini during the swap was posted in grayscale. I am finally getting to post this mini because the receiver has gotten their quilt and it is no longer a secret.

Enjoy!

This pattern does the simple stitch and flip sewing method to obtain your half square triangles. The only problem with this method is it creates a lot of waste. You can assemble them using other methods such as the 2 at a time (which is my favorite). If you want to make them 2 at a time then you will cut your starting squares to 2 7/8″. Draw a diagonal line down the center and sew 1/4″ away from the drawn line on each side. I have a tutorial on how to make an hourglass block and the first steps show you how to 2 half square triangles. You can find that tutorial here.

Happy sewing!
