Foodie Blog Hop

Thank you Carla from Creatin in the Sticks for hosting this delicious blog hop. If you have been following me for any amount of time or have browsed my posts you may notice a trend…I love to quilt and create food related items. If you are new to Inflorescence, you can check out some of my food related posts in the slide show below.

The Challenge:
Create something to do with food. It could be anything from a quilt with a food fabric, to a tea cozy. A mug rug for coffee to an apron. A Corn and Beans Quilt Block to a drying rack for the kitchen. Maybe you are trying to raise money for a charity that supplies food. You decide!  The theme is really your own interpretation, surprise us!

I went BIG with this challenge. I always tell myself do something small. I see all the wonderful small projects that are created by so many others on these blog hops, and they are all marvelous! However, once again I made a made a large project. When I started thinking about what I wanted to make for this hop I knew I had the perfect time and place to create it. At the end of April, I went on my FIRST quilt retreat! IT. WAS. AMAZING.

I have never gotten so much sewing done and met so many others who share the same passion as me in person. They were all so uplifting and amazing. I am a shy introverted person, and it really takes me some courage to go up and talk to people I don’t know (which was everyone except my mother). I was so thankful that everyone came to me and started talking and I didn’t have to muster up the courage to do it myself. It also probably helped that I was right by the doors, so everyone had to walk by me!

I prepared all the materials at home before I went so that I could just sit down and make. For my project I made the “Donut Delight Quilt Pattern” by Lindsey at Pen and Paper Patterns. For this quilt, I used the window applique method, and you can read all about it and see a video tutorial over on Thermoweb’s Blog.

The retreat was at Clifty Falls State Park in Madison Indiana. It was beautiful. My mom and I took some time away from sewing to hike a few trails to see the waterfalls. It was on these hikes I was able to get some awesome photos of my newly finished quilt.

Thanks for stopping by! Check out all the other amazing bloggers joining me today as well as a full blog hop list.

  4. Julia when you posted this quilt on Instagram, I was thinking your quilt would be perfect for this blog hop! Retreats are fun and it’s been many years since I went on a retreat. How fun you got to share sewing with your mom.

  5. Cool quilt — looks delicious!! Are you from Indiana – Clifty Falls is beautiful

    1. I am not from Indiana. I did live there for 2 years (Clarksville) but I am from and now live just north of Cincinnati Ohio!

  9. Those felt or wool donuts are AWESOME! where did you find the pattern? I think my daughter would LOVE me to make her some for her kitchen! You sure have made lots of yummy projects!

  11. Well, now you’ve made me hungry and thirsty to have a special treat…Donuts are one of my favorite things so this quilt looks yummy! So glad you enjoyed your retreat, I did notice your SewTogether bag on the table. 🙂

  13. I saw this quilt and thought it would be perfect for the hop – and it IS!!! So fun to spend time with your mom and step out of your comfort zone with a retreat. Beautiful pictures of the quilt. Love it.

  14. Oh my gosh, your donut quilt is just too cute. I just got back from a retreat myself. Nothing beats stitching with other quilters, does it?

  15. What a fun quilt you made on your retreat! You definitely can get a lot done and prepping to sew is so helpful for retreats. I also love your retrospective slide show of other projects you have done…many more food projects than I have ever done!

  16. Before I even saw the quilt I was like, “this girl likes donuts and that makes me happy” and THEN I saw the quilt and I am so glad you did this project! That may be the most cheerful quilt I’ve seen this year. Also, I’m so happy for you that you got to go to a retreat, they really are super fun with the right crowd, and good for you for preparing your project, I always just grab a bunch of WIPs and end up talking too much to accomplish much… LOL

  17. Julia your donut quilt is beautiful and I enjoyed the other projects you shared! Just perfect for the hop. So good to hear you enjoyed your first (and I’m sure not last) retreat!
