Beacon with Island Batik

Today on the blog I am featuring my second project for Island Batik!

For March’s project, I designed a quilt pattern that includes curves. I have not worked with curves very much and I wanted to challenge myself. That is how “Beacon” was born. This quilt pattern comes together easily. When piecing the curves, I used a glue stick for basting my curved seams and it made the piecing go really smoothly without all the pins. You can see for yourself how to do this on my YouTube Channel!

For this pattern I also tried out my Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 ruler “Four Patch Square Up.” This tool was fun to work with and made my 4 patches perfect! I used my amazing Oliso Iron! and also used Hobbs batting for this quilt. This was my first time using wool batting.

The fabric that I used is a combination of Island Batik materials including several colors from “Rollin Round” by Kathy Engle, as well as, Round Petal Floral in Cantaloupe and Bubble in Cherry from their Blenders line. I also used Chesnut from Island Batik Basics.

You can find “Beacon” in both my Payhip and Etsy Shops!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy sewing.

  1. You created a good-looking quilt! I enjoyed watching the video. I haven’t sewed curves and you make it look easier than I thought.
