100 Days of School Project

Do you have a child that has a celebration for the 100 days of school coming soon? Some schools ask that you dress like you are 100 years old while others, like my daughter’s school, ask for a visualization of what 100 looks like.

For my daughters 100th day of school her teacher asked each of her students to decorate a t-shirt with 100 items on it. She suggested stickers, googly eyes, fabric paint, cotton balls, pom-poms, safety pins, stamps etc…

Well of course this project had to involve FABRIC! I wanted to include my daughter in the process since it was her project, so we chose to use HeatnBond Soft Stretch Ultra. This product is a no-sew application and only requires ironing, which with supervision, I was totally comfortable having my 5 year old help.

To make her shirt, we started by picking out fabrics. This is a GREAT scrap buster! Once the fabrics were chosen, we fused the Soft Stretch Ultra to the wrong side. To make things really easy, we cut out all the little hearts with my die cutter. You can totally hand cut out all the shapes by hand too or you could make it easy and cut out squares or triangles with a rotary cutter.

Once everything was cut out, it was time to fuse. We carefully peeled off the backing of the 100 hearts as well as a fun LOVE die cut, I had on hand. My daughter carefully pressed the hearts for 20 seconds with a quick burst of steam. After it was all finished, she enjoyed counting each heart to make sure we had all 100 of them.

She thoroughly enjoyed making this shirt. Not only will it work for her 100 days celebration, but she can wear it all year round. Have you made a 100 items shirt for the 100th day of school before? I would love to hear about it. Let me know in the comments!

Happy sewing!
