It’s taken me some time to finish this project but it is finally complete. I introduce my “Sweetly Spring Mugs” quilt block patterns.
My simple mug pattern was my very first quilt block pattern I created and I knew there was so much potential for it. I created my first decorative mug back in the fall with a pumpkin on it and that is when I thought I could design my first FULL quilt pattern with the same idea. That was how my “Sweetly Spring Mugs” quilt idea was born.
I love gardening (flowers and veggies) and I have always enjoyed looking at the traditional basket quilts and quilt blocks. I decided this would be the perfect for my first full quilt–mixing modern with traditional.
I tried to do it all manually-measuring fabric requirements, etc. but I just couldn’t keep track of numbers especially if I made a mistake and needed to use more fabric than I calculated. I put this project on the back burner to give me time to think about what I wanted to do with it.
I finally decided that I wasn’t ready to introduce myself to the full quilt pattern world and when I decided that, my stalled project started to gain some steam again. I actually finished the whole quilt on March 20, 2021. The first day of spring. Very fitting.
I may decided to enter the FULL quilt pattern world soon. Since I purchased EQ8 I now have the tools that help me know how much fabric I need (even if I make a mistake) as well as a platform to play with when creating. But for now, I do love just creating individual and group novelty quilt blocks.
I am currently working on using my simple mug pattern again. I recently designed a foundation paper piecing pattern that gives the maker the choice to change the coffee collar depending on the season. I am designing a traditional machine quilting pattern with the same principle.
