My older sister is due with her 3rd child the end of this month so of course I offered to make my sister a quilt. My other niece and nephew both got crochet blankets before they were born so this is my first quilt for an unborn baby.
I told her she could choose any design her heart desired. I sent her several examples of patterns I could purchase and also told her I could design one for her as well.
Well, my sister decided and of course she chose squares…..
Really?!?!?!
Are your sure?!?!?!?
You know I can essentially make anything?!?!?!?
Traditional, paper piecing, applique……not even a little star????
No. Just squares.
So since she chose something so simple, I decided to keep the simplicity going and purchase charm packs to make it simple on me as well.
Since this is their third and they already have a boy and and girl, this baby is going to be a surprise. So the quilt had to be neutral. My sister wanted teals and greys but I decided to make the color my choice. I knew there were cute fabrics out there that were so much more than just teals and greys.
I decided on “Animal Crackers” by Sweetwater and “Cross Stitch” by Lori Holt.
I purchased 3 charm packs of Animal Crackers and 2 of Cross Stitch. I had plenty to play with and I omitted the pinks and purples. I even had enough to make a matching pillow cover for the nursery rocking chair.
The quilt is 54″ x 67 1/2″ so this quilt will grow with my niece or nephew.. I always try to make my gifts like this. I have several tiny baby crib blankets that my girls got and now they are too small and obsolete.
So what do I think she is having…….I am honesty hoping for a girl. I know that my parents already have 3 girls and only one boy in the grandchildren department but I just am a girl fan. Since I have 2 girls I am lost when it comes to boys.
Happy Sewing!
