No Waste Flying Geese Cutting Chart–Popular Sizes

Measurements are slightly larger to allow for trimming (and if you are like me when it comes to sewing this helps a lot! I can never make anything “just” right)

Materials:

  • 4 small squares (refer to chart for sizing)
  • 1 large square (refer to chart for sizing)
  • basic sewing supplies-scissors, sewing machine, thread, ruler etc.
Draw a line from corner to corner on the four small square pieces.
Place two of the small squares on the larger square, right sides together, in opposite corners. Refer to the photo above. The drawn lines should meet and form one line. Pin everything together to secure small squares.
Sew two seams, each a scant 1/4 inch away from the marked lines.
Cut the piece in half along the original drawn line.
Press the triangles open on each piece.
Take another small square and place it on your piece like the photo shows above. Make sure they are facing right sides together.
Sew two seams, each a scant 1/4 inch away from the marked lines. Repeat with your other piece.
Cut the piece in half along the original drawn line.
Press the triangles open.
Trim your flying geese. Remember that each flying geese will need to be 1/2″ larger then its finished size. Note: The measurements in the chart above are slightly larger to allow for trimming down to the pre finished size–which is 1/2″ larger. I use my grid ruler to square up my corners and make sure my sizing is correct.
Finished!

Now repeat that over and over till you have as many as you need!
