Hello and welcome!
Today on the blog I am featuring my sixth project for Island Batik! This month we are making mini quilts! For my mini quilt I wanted to highlight the unique characteristics of batik fabric. Batiks, specifically Island Batik, have fabric that has a beautiful gradation of colors.
Island Batik has their Batik Basics line that are available year-round and are perfect for any project that needs a subtle change in color.
I made a paper pieced gemstone mini quilt! I purchased the pattern from 3rdStoryWorkshop over on Etsy. It was simple to put together and the pattern was thorough and easy to follow. They have several other Gemstones as well.
To get the faced effect of a gemstone, a gradation of colors works best. Island Batik has their Basics line that is perfect for this. They have every color allowing you to make a variety of different gemstones.
For this project I used my scraps. It included several of the Island Batik Basics as well as some fabric from my May paper piecing project and a piece of fabric from a stash builder I have. For the background I used one of Island Batiks solids.
I love the color yellow, and I am thinking for my next gemstone of making yellow garnet, as it is my birthstone. Did you know garnet comes in every color except blue?
Be sure to check out all the other amazing designers and their Marvelous Mini quilts.
Thanks for stopping by!
