It’s a Guy Thing Blog Hop

Welcome to the second day of the “It’s A Guy Thing” blog hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt

For this hop we were challenged to make something for a guy or tomboy, or in manly-man colors of blues, grays, browns, etc.

Well the guy in my life is my AMAZING husband Sean.

My guy LOVES Marvel and Pokemon. He also loves Star Wars and DC comics.

In fact, our whole family has become Pokémon loving Marvel Superhero’s! So much so that I custom ordered shirts. My youngest, started calling herself Captain America, so we all took on Marvel Hero names. My youngest will even call me by my hero name instead of mommy sometimes!

However for this hop, my project was to make my husband another wall hanging for his space. Here is what I designed and made for him.

Sean and I have known each other since we were children. His Grandparents and Mom and Dad went to the same church as my grandparents. His dad would sing in the choir and my mom would join in anytime we attended Mass at their church. My husband and his brother were part of our holidays and birthday parties when we younger. I remember spending a weekend at his house making sand art with his mom. (His brother even gave me a ring–which I still have lol) .

However, as time went on, we grew older and busier, and his mom and dad separated, so my husband wasn’t always at the church when we visited.

The last time I remember seeing him at church was Easter in 2006. I was a freshman in college and he was finishing high school getting ready to join the Army National Guard (Although I didn’t know that at the time).

In the fall, some circumstances came up about housing for my Junior year that I was excluded from and I decided to go home for my Dads surprise 50th birthday party (I wasn’t going to go home just for his party since it was a long drive home but I was a bit upset so I made the drive) .

Sean (my husband) was not there, but his father was. He was so proud of his son for being in the military. Sean was currently at AIT (military job training). Since I was upset about the housing issue, I decided I needed a new friend. I asked my now father in law for Sean’s military address and I sent him a letter.

The rest is history!

We are going to be celebrating our 12 year wedding Anniversary on August 1st. We were babies when we got married haha.

I designed the pattern in EQ8. You can have the pattern for yourself or another Marvel/X-Men loving person in your life.

Back in April I also made him another wall hanging for his birthday.

This is his favorite Pokémon-Raichu

  1. What a cute marriage “origin story” and love the wallhangings for your hubby! Ok, very cool family shirt, where did you order it from? My guys are into Marvel, me not so much. But I could see us do a version of this in Stars Wars or Mandalorian characters!

  2. How fun that the whole family gets involved in super heros! I love the X-Men wall hanging. We were just talking at quilt club the other day about life and how things happen for a reason. Your story sounds like it’s another great example of that. If only we could see the future… LOL!!

  3. What a sweet story of how you ended up together! I’m a Marvel fan, especially with six grandsons who have had at least one of them dressed as a superhero every Halloween. Your wall hangings are amazing and I love how you mounted them for hanging. Very cool! Thank you for sharing, Julia!

  4. Love Pikachu, Congrats on the anniversary, ours is Aug 2nd. Aug 1 is squirrel season here and he knew if we married on on the 2nd he would never forget.

  5. Wow, what cool paper piecing projects! And the shirts are so cute.

Have you visited the Fandom in Stitches site? If you didn’t know, they have hundreds of patterns for all sorts of fun patterns for Pokémon, Marvel/DC, Harry Potter, etc, I think they’d be right up your alley and they have the option to submit your patterns if you were interested.

  6. Perfect projects for your guy! And an adorable picture of the two of you – we’re at 35 years next month.

  7. Julia that is such a perfect wall hanging for a Super Hero! I’m sure your husband is just that to you and your kids. How fun that you all enjoy the same movies/characters.

  8. What an awesome wall hanging! You are very creative!! My grandson loves Marvel. The story of how you two met and got married is very sweet. Thanks for sharing, Julia!
