Today on the blog I am featuring my third project for Island Batik!
My April 2024 project was to make a super cute stuffed friend from a pattern of our choice from Funky Friends Factory. I chose Kelsey the Keepsake Unicorn. My youngest LOVES unicorns so it was only fitting that I choose that as my project.
I haven’t dabbled too much in making stuffed animal toys so I was a bit hesitant on how well my unicorn would turn out. Well, let me tell you, the Funky Friends Factory pattern made it so easy to make! The unicorn pattern in particular has online step by step photos that help you through the process if written instructions are not your forte and you prefer a visual aide.
The fabrics I used were an assortment of batiks provided by Island Batik.
I also collaborated with Thermoweb. They provided me with interfacing that is specifically designed for batik fabrics. The interfacing made using batiks for this project even easier! Batiks by nature do not have a “wrong” or ” right” side of fabric. You can use either side. The interfacing made piecing the pattern using batiks easier because I knew which pieces were or were not in reverse. I also used their HeatnBond Fabric Fuse. This was a game changer for adding the flower embellishments to the top. You can see more on Thermoweb’s Blog.
I introduce you to Celestial Reign–Celeste for short. She and I went on a fun adventure together. Here is our story:
The Adventures of Celestial Reign
Once upon a time, Celeste and I visited the park one morning and found some children and a puppy playing. Celeste loves children and puppies so she needed to join in on the fun.
After playing with the cute puppy, Celeste noticed some other children having a garden hose fight. She loves the water and needed to get in on the action. I was hesitant to let her, but she insisted!
After drying off from the hose fight, Celeste was ready for some more fun. She wanted to play hide and seek! She is really good at hiding.
After having so much fun at the park Celeste wanted to go to the library and read a book. She saw some other children listening to a story so she just had to join them.
After the library, Celeste was ready to go home. She had such a fun and exciting day. The end.
Thanks for stopping by!
Happy sewing.

Celeste is adorable, and I think she had a wonderful day at the park! I think I’ll have to put this pattern on my list of future things to make!
So cute, and a fun story.
