Hexagon Star Quilt

Hello everyone!

I am excited to announce that I have been selected to be one of the new Educational Design members for Thermoweb!

I am still in awe over it. I have been following many of their designers and they have been an inspiration to me since I started my journey back in early 2020.

To tell you the truth, I was a bit intimidated when I saw who some of the other designers were. I am excited to get to know all them even better and grow as an artist myself along the way.

My slogan has been “Starting to bloom by choosing JOY.” Well, I think I have at least one blossom now and I am excited to grow a whole garden by choosing what brings me JOY every day!

Hexagon Star Quilt with Spraynbond Basting Adhesive, Heatnbond Lite 5/8″ Tape & Crafter’s Edge

This quilt was a fun challenge I gave myself. When I look at what Crafter’s Edge dies I want to use I think of all the possibilities it can bring.

For this project, I used the hexagon and equilateral triangle dies. The trickiest part was determining how I was going to make two different dies work together to create one block. To make this project work, I needed to increase my seam allowance and then the two dies fit together perfectly!

This quilt project is not really beginner friendly. This project is sewn on the bias and I highly recommend not trimming the “dog ears” which to a beginner might be overwhelming to look at–this of course is completely my opinion and if you are a beginner and what to try it more power to you!

This quilt uses a couple Thermoweb products. I used the basting adhesive when it was time to create my quilt sandwich. This was my first time using a basting spray and let me tell you, I’m not sure I will go back to pin basting again! I also used their Heatnbond Lite iron on adhesive tape. I used this on the binding and it held my binding perfectly so I could get the perfect machine sewn binding. (In the past my stitches would hop on and off the binding on the back.) This product kept my binding in place when I stitched.
