The Challenge: It’s Halloween time, so just put on your witch’s hat and see what you come up with. Be it creepy or treaty, we love it all!
Thank you Joan from Moose Stash Quilting for hosting this hop! For this hop I chose to create something with my newest die set from Crafter’s Edge-the Rainbow Die. If you have been following me for any amount of time, you will know that I don’t typically use the die for it’s intended purpose. I like to make the most of my gadgets and the same rings true for the rainbow die set. After playing around with some paper that I cut out with the die and Crossover II machine, I noticed that the rainbow pieces create a perfect spiral. I took that shape and ran with it. I created a fun Halloween quilt with spirals and little circles to look like creepy eyes. You can check out the mini tutorial below to learn how to create your very own.
Supplies:
- Crafter’s Edge Crossover II Machine
- Mini Circle Die Set 2
- Rainbow Die Set
- Halloween Fabric for spirals (5)
- Thermoweb HeatnBond Ultra Hold
- SpraynBond Basting Adhesive
- Iron
- 1 Fat quarter for the front background
- Batting and Backing
- Fabric for binding
Being by fusing the HeatnBond Ultra to the fabric you are using for the rainbow spirals and creepy eyes. Next, cut out the 5 rainbows with the Crossover II and rainbow die set. Then, cut out the circles for the creepy eyes. 2 large white and 2 smaller black.
Next, arrange your rainbow pieces into spirals on the background fabric. Peel the backing paper off and fuse according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once everything is in place, baste the front, batting and backing together with SpraynBond Adhesive. Quilt as desired. DO NOT quilt over the spirals. Using the Ultra Hold adhesive requires no sewing. If you want to sew over the spirals use Thermoweb’s Lite or Feather Lite adhesive. Once quilted, trim and bind your quilt! If you want to hang it, don’t forget to add hangers to the edges. You can find out how I hang my mini quilts HERE!

Continue to bloom by choosing JOY ~ Julia
Very cute and clever use of that die, Julia! I like that scrappy, stripey binding too!
You’re so clever! What a great use of the rainbow shapes. Your quilt is quite creepy and really beautiful at the same time!
I spy with those little eyes! LOL!! What a great way to use a rainbow die. Who would have ever guessed you could make such a fun designs with it. Needless to say, I absolutely love everything about your Halloween mini!
Another fun project using the rainbow die cut. I have some ideas for using that die cut too, but just haven’t had time to play around with it yet…one day. That little quilt would look even creepier if you quilted it with glow-in-the-dark thread! Of course it’s about impossible to photograph in the dark with the glowing thread. I tried with no luck on one of the quilts I made using that thread.
Very cute, Julia!! Great idea to use the rainbow die and create spirals!
Your mini is perfection. Such a clever idea to use the Ultra. I never seem to have a use for it, but this is so fun.
Love the eye’s popping out!
This little quilt design is SO clever of you to notice the rainbows would make a fabulous spiral! And then to give each a creepy single eye! I don’t have a fabric die cutter but my paper die cutter cuts fabric just fine, so I’m off to find a rainbow die in a thinlet or bigz die. I love this inspiration!
Reminds me of the Twilight Zone, looks great
I love it! What a clever way to use that die and the googly eyes are the perfect addition!
Adorable quilt and great use of that die with the eyes in the center! Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh my gosh, what a great way to use that rainbow die…love it! You really rocked the creepy Halloween theme with this one. The eyes in the center added just the right over-the-top look to your mini quilt. Thanks for sharing!
Creepy, yes, fun, definitely! I noticed those eyes following me regardless of the angle I was using to peer at them. I like that, it gives one just the right amount of shivers. Thanks
That’s very different, and appropriately spooky. Thanks for sharing!
Great little quilt! Love the fabrics you chose for your spirals! Sew clever!
What a very fun way to use the die!
Very cute quilt. I love the eyes in it. Thank you for sharing the tutorial.
How cute and creative. I’ve used a ‘cutter’ before but you used yours beautifully. Wouldn’t it make an adorable placemat? Great idea.
A very fun little quilt! It’s always fun to pull out quilts that you made each Holiday and see them again.
Such a clever use of the die (I love those eyes!!). The background fabric is perfect; well, the whole thing is perfect!
So when I first looked at your quilt I didnt have on my glasses and I really thought I was looking at creepy snakes. Let me tell you those eyes are as creepy or even creepier. Great job.
What a fun hilarious project!
