Hello and welcome!
Quilters have long been known for their wonderful charity work. From Quilts of Valor to quilts for seniors, quilters rise to the call-in times of need and tragedy. For the June challenge, we are joined by our friends at Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design and together we are creating a fun, simple quilt for donation to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. Across the US, too many boys and girls go without a bed—or even a pillow—to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This can affect their happiness and health. That’s where Sleep in Heavenly Peace comes in. A group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling, and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need.
So many great charities provide clothing, meals, and toys to families in need. But as wonderful as this aid is, few organizations offer suitable beds and bedding to the kids in these families. Sleep in Heavenly Peace fully believes that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs. If a child needs a bed, Sleep in Heavenly Peace wants to make sure they get one.
Today I am sharing my quilt that I am donating to Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The quilt I designed uses Deb Tucker Studio 180 Designs Four Patch Square Up Ruler. The quilt has (96) four patches. This tool was amazing in that it helped square up each patch beautifully.
The quilt is named Peaceful Retreat. It finishes at 72″ x 72″ but there is also a smaller 48″ x 48″ design option. I hope this quilt brings a sense of peace to whomever receives it. I made it large enough to grow with the child who receives it, or it is already big enough for a teenager. The colors and pattern I designed are suitable for either a boy or a girl.
The fabric that I used is a combination of Island Batik materials including floral dot-orange daffodil from Buds and Blooms, solid red and black, basics naturally neutral pearl and various greens from stash builders.
You can find some of these fabrics from a Quilt Shop local to me. They have an entire isle of batiks. See all their fabric on their website.
