Count Down to Christmas

You may be able to tell, but I love joining quilt alongs. I love that is gives you something small each day or week to accomplish but in the end you wind up with something big and beautiful.

On December 1st, I joined Moda’s Count Down to Christmas. Each year during the month of December they share a new quilt block leading up to December 25. It’s a fun little treat to enjoy each day during the holiday season! It was especially nice this year due to covid 19 and having to stay at home more.

You can find all the blocks here.

I will give you a heads up though. Many of the instructions have mistakes on them. They include wrong measurements, missing pieces and vague instructions. I know we are all human and make mistakes, but this could be difficult especially if you are new to quilting. However, if you read the color diagrams you shouldn’t have too much trouble even if you are a beginner.

Below are my blocks so far. I am unsure of how I am going to set them but I think I am envisioning a village somewhere in the middle. EDIT: I have created my setting and you can see it at the bottom of this post.

Here is my final setting. I did my blocks on point except the middle section. You can find my tutorial on setting your quilt on the diagonal here.

I love how this turned out. I will put this quilt top away for awhile so I have ample energy to quilt it. After working a whole month on it I am going to put it aside for a minute to keep me from getting burned out on it. I also need to give my shoulders a rest. I am currently quilting my Mystery quilt I did back in October and boy it’s big and heavy which makes quilting it hurt my shoulders. I’m excited to share that quilt soon.

Happy sewing!
