Hello everyone and welcome to Inflorescence!
For this hop I made a baby quilt for a dear friend of mine.
I thought a lot about what I wanted to do for their new arrival but ultimately I wanted something that would grow with their bundle of joy.
My friend and her husband are both Class A licensed skydivers. I’d say that is definitely living on the wild side. I knew that I needed to make a quilt that had some kind of skydiving in it. During my search for fabric I found these adorable wild animals parachuting. It was perfect for them and for this wild hop!
This fabric is by Michael Miller and is called Hanging Out Blue. I also chose to use my red, white and blue jelly rolls that I had in my stash.
The next step was determining how I wanted to use the jelly roll. I went to my computer and designed the quilt in eq8 using their one of the log cabin blocks. I love using the symmetry tool. It takes your blocks and moves them around at the click of a button and shows a variety of ways to set your blocks. Without further ado…..The finished quilt!
When I finished this quilt, back in April, I just had to take a few photos with the blooming red bud tree and my pretty tulips!

Charming quilt! I’m sure your friend will love it.
Lovely quilt! The back is as interesting as the front.
Julia, this is a wonderful quilt! I absolutely love the skydiving animals! Then to have the top be RWB log cabin blocks–neat! Your friend and baby are going to love this quilt!
What a great combination. I was looking at that cute fabric and was wondering how you were going to cut it up. I’m glad you didn’t. That quilt will be loved for a very long time.
Great quilt, Julia! Love the animal print!
That fabric is just the cutest and definitely hits the target on being wild! Jumping out of an airplane is way too wild for me, but I admire the brave ones who do it. Making the quilt so that it grows with a child is a smart thing to do and it looks awesome with the log cabins. Your photos are gorgeous, too! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! My husband was licensed to skydive too but since has let his license expire. He now enjoys going to the wind tunnel that was built nearby which makes me happier!
Oh my goodness, you did find the perfect fabric for that quilt. What a bright and cheery design. Something fun for baby to look at for many years!
