Hello and welcome to Inflorescence Designs. I am so joyful you are here!
Today is my day for the Sew a Story: Little Witch Blog Tour hosted by Jennifer Long from Bee Sew Inspired.
The “Little Witch” fabric line by Riley Blake Designs was so fun to work with. I chose to work with their 10″ pre-cut and yardage.
When pondering what I could do with my 10″ squares I tried designing so many ways to cut it up and use it. Each time just didn’t feel right and to me the point of having pre-cuts is to do as little cutting as possible, otherwise I would just use yardage.
That is when inspiration hit! I was shown a fun technique by a women in my quilting group on how to do a square in a square with no cutting! I thought, perhaps I should give it a try. I put one together and it was so inspiring that I quickly made an Instagram Reel to share it with the world!
Well, let me tell you, I have never had so many views on a reel before. I went from 550 followers to over 4,500 and counting in a week. There were some negative comments, but the majority were inspired just as I was. It is currently at over ONE MILLION VIEWS! You can see it for yourself here if you would like or check out my YouTube channel.
This fun and easy technique is what inspired this quilt. I call this pattern “Total Eclipse” since part of the 10” square is fully shadowed by the 5” square. You can use a 10″ precut and a 5″ precut OR simply cut a few 10″ squares down, like I did for this pattern.
Today is also the perfect release day for this pattern. April 8, 2024: The day the total solar eclipse will be visible across North America. The pattern is also available for FREE.
I hope you enjoy this pattern and are inspired by this simple technique. Many wonder about the thickness. I can assure you that I have sewn and quilted thicker things than these. Some also wonder about the wasted fabric behind the 5″ square. You most certainly can cut that out, or just leave it in there for added warmth. The choice is yours.
